THE RESIDENCY

The programme is open to artists and creative practitioners looking for dedicated time away from their usual environment to research, experiment and create.

Residents can use the space to develop an existing project, begin something new, explore materials or simply spend time thinking and working without the pressure of an immediate outcome.

WHAT WE OFFER

Studio Space
A dedicated space for artistic practice and experimentation.

8 Seats: Twin sharing. 

 

Materials & Facilities
Access to selected materials, tools and facilities depending on the nature of the project.

 

Nature & Open Spaces
Located by the Lake in the middle of nowhere.

 

Community & Interaction
Opportunities to engage with artists, craftspeople and the local community.

 

Sharing 
Residents may have opportunities to conduct workshops, collaborate with local community to create.

We welcome applications from:

  • Visual artists

  • Ceramic and pottery artists

  • Sculptors

  • Painters and illustrators

  • Writers and researchers

  • Interdisciplinary and contemporary artists

 

The programme welcomes emerging, mid-career and established practitioners.

CERAMIC INFRASTRUCTURE

Clay, Shimpu wheel, rolling pins, tools, Trimming wheel, electric kiln & wood fired catenory arch kiln.

WHAT CAN YOU WORK ON?

  • Develop a new body of work

  • Continue an ongoing project

  • Research a particular subject, place or material

  • Experiment with new techniques

  • Collaborate with other artists or communities

  • Conduct workshops or knowledge-sharing sessions

Submit your application, portfolio and residency proposal.
02 — REVIEW
Applications are reviewed by the 130 Awata team.
03 — SELECTION
Selected artists are invited to participate in the residency.
04 — RESIDENCY
Arrive, settle in and begin your work at 130 Awata.

The Fee Structure

14 Days                        $850                 ₹81,300

1 Month                       $1620               ₹15,5,000

3 Months                     $4600               ₹ 4,40,000

 

The fee includes

  • Accommodation (Twin Sharing)

  • Dedicated studio/work space

  • Access to common facilities

  • All meals

  • Wi-Fi 

  • Participation in selected 130 Awata activities and community interactions

Not included

  • Travel to and from 130 Awata

  • Personal materials and specialised equipment​

  • Transportation and personal expenses

  • Shipping of artwork

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can apply?
Artists and creative practitioners from different disciplines and at different stages of their careers can apply.

Can artists from outside India apply?
Yes. International artists are welcome to apply, subject to applicable travel and visa requirements.

 

Is accommodation provided?
Accommodation is available as part of the residency, depending on the programme.

 

Is there a residency fee?
Yes, As we are a self sustaining social initiative (an NGO). 

 

Do I need to conduct a workshop or presentation?
Some residency programmes may include opportunities for workshops. This will be discussed with the selected artist. This would also benefit the artist to cover the fees

 

Can I apply for a specific duration?
Yes. Please mention your preferred dates and duration in your application.
